After the resurrection of hope brought about by the Lord Jesus resurrecting from the dead to bring about the hope that goes beyond the scope of the impossible, the hope of new life, the hope in the gospel of the Christ, and the hope of future glory, ending in verse eight on a note of the women being afraid. Many theologians and scholars believe Mark’s gospel ended leaving an abrupt end to his gospel. This belief comes on the heels of Mark’s next and last section that takes a turn on the normal style of writing and tone abnormal to the continuity of Mark’s gospel prior to verse eight. While many forefathers of the faith quoted many of the verses of 9-20 it was not until two major accounts of Mark were found that excluded the last half of Mark, which began a trend and movement to remove the last half of Mark’s gospel inciting that it was imputed later by some other scribe and not by Mark. Yet all of these and other rumors are but speculations. For all we knew it could have been Mark and if it was someone else later being led to add the last half of Mark rather than leaving it ending on a negative note of fear. Whether it was Mark or not, I believe that our great God and Savior is able to preserve His word and allow and keep what is supposed to be in scripture and what is not. Whether these verses were imputed from Matthew’s account or the other gospels in which these verses can be found outside of the drinking poison and handling snakes, yet all these verses can be confirmed within the continuity of the New Testament and found to be experienced even in the Acts of the Apostles as true and amen. Therefore, these scriptures along with the portion of scripture in the gospel of John considering the women caught up in adultery are the most scrutinized scriptures in the NT and believed to be added later in history. I would encourage you all to do your own research of these precious scriptures to gain a background and more solid understanding of the science behind preservation of scripture and the like which this sermon would not allot the time to do that for you.​
My take on these scriptures is as any other scriptures in the preserved word of God, which is to receive them as from the Lord and learn and apply them as God has called me too with appreciation and reverence that the Lord allowed us to become enriched by and in them. Therefore, my mission today is to dive into these verses and exegete these scriptures as I would do with all of scripture, which is God breathed and inspired for us to receive. ​
