Mark went from getting us to answer two questions in last week’s section of Mark which asks, 1. Are you a true follow of Jesus and 2. Why do you follow Jesus? Which incorporated actions on our behalf to assure we are truly following Jesus along with the reason why you truly follow Him, because He is the Son of God. In this next section of Mark Jesus chooses the twelve disciples who become the Lord’s apostles or special messengers and representatives. A choosing with a purpose that shed light upon the choosing of every believer who calls themselves a Christian and a disciple of Jesus. In this section we learn that the choosing of Jesus of ourselves is not a choosing without a purpose that makes for Jesus and Christianity a good tool for our life’s utility belt of methods, adoptions and adaptations that only place and keep the focus on self. Rather, the choosing to save us, we must come to learn, is a choosing with purpose given and handed down from God that leads to the focus of God and the dying of self to now look like and represent Christ in us and through us.
