It is still Tuesday of Passion week, and the religious leaders including the political officiates who were the Herodians wrapped up their plots to entrap Jesus and failing miserably to the exposure of their own hearts. Jesus just answered and explain to them the two greatest commandments in putting God first by loving Him with all of our heart and with all our soul, and with all our mind and with all our strength. The second is to love our neighbor as ourselves. One of the Scribes in whom Jesus was dialoguing with responded correctly to Jesus’s answer leaving Jesus to respond to the Scribe in declaring, you are not far from the kingdom of God. ​ After their failed attempt to entrap Jesus, Jesus poses a question of His own in what may seem to be a last attempt for the religious people and the Herodians to accept Jesus for Who He truly is. He poses the question about the identity of the Messiah/the Christ. No one was able to reply to Jesus’s question. It was a question that would have pierced their minds and hearts and if honest, led to conviction and salvation. Yet, they dared not to respond and answer and maybe it was due to their lack of knowledge and dealing with the true identity of the Christ that was never able to penetrate beyond their own presuppositions and selfish expectations of the promised Messiah. They did not know, understand, and fully accept who the Christ would be. This leaves a penetrating question for us all. Who do we say the Christ is and have we accepted Him fully into our lives?
