The quickest way towards doubt and assuming that salvation is not so great after all or worthy to not be neglected comes in the face of our present life that blinds our eyes and minds to our glorious future. Is salvation worth it? Is Jesus worth dying to self and giving up the life we do have to embrace all that we cannot see, cannot feel, and cannot possess now. Many of us are on life support never truly able to live and enjoy life abundantly due to the frailty of our lives that cause us to ever hold to the little we do have that perseverance to a glorious future in Christ is but given up to the stronghold of our present life and happenstances. ​
The Hebrew writers’ intent is to help the believer persevere in the present while being mindful of our future. The second-generation Jewish Christians were under great peer pressure, persecution, and discouragement that led to the temptation to turn back to Judaism their old way(s) of living. Some may have been immature in the faith and lacked understanding of biblical truth and the gospel of Jesus as they awaited His return. Their present life began blinding any hope of a glorious future. ​
The Hebrew writer continues to encourage his readers and audience towards perseverance in establishing Jesus as all-superior. After initiating a much-needed pause to warn his readers to pay close attention to what he has been saying and preaching as any good preacher should do as described in 2:1-4 and explaining such expectant punishment and judgment from ignoring and neglecting such great a salvation, the writer continues in pointing to the Son of God, Jesus the Christ as superior to all and reason to persevere in the face of such persecution, doubt, and discouragement. ​
