The Book of Hebrews Sermon Series | Perseverance in Christ | All-Sufficient One | Hebrews 1:1-4 | Pt.1
The book of Hebrews is a book that has been formulated more like a sermon to a community of 2nd generation Jewish Christian believers that were on the verge of returning to their previous faith or religious system of Judaism that they were so accustomed to in which also brought about less persecution and scrutiny. Written about 70 A.D in which the destruction of the temple had not yet taken place as indicated by the mentioning of the temple and its sacrificial system in chapter 9 and no mention of its destruction. The author of Hebrews is not mentioned, but speculations have been made having its authorship possibly of Paul, or Apollos, and even of Barnabas yet these are all speculations. One thing is for sure, the audience of this powerful and encouraging letter were known by its author and author was known by their audience. Their acquaintance to each other paved the way for such an encouraging sermon whose preacher’s heart was for the sheep of God’s pasture and whose allegiance was to The Shepherd of our souls.
