True Freedom

As we celebrate the Declaration of Independence on this 4th of July of American Independence and liberty, we must be cautious not to enslave ourselves again and that by our own hands and doing in making sin our slave master. Paul in Galatians 5:1 spoke of the freedom Jesus Christ has given to all who would accept Him in declaring; it is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Yet he continues in commanding that we stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery (sin and religiosity that enslaves).

It is the assumption of many that true freedom is doing whatever we want to do when we want to do it with a YOLO (you only live once) mentality without realizing that this too only brings about the slavery to sin that Jesus Christ died to set us free from. For this reason, while independence from those that enslaved as exampled in the celebration of the 4th of July should not be an independence or freedom to sin which leads back into a worse type of slavery through sin, but an independence or freedom to be dependent upon God and His finished work on the cross that sets people free from sin and paid its penalty.

Today, in our celebration and declaration of independence of liberty may we consider our freedom while also allowing Jesus the Christ to free us and keep us free from the slavery of self, due to sin, and come to experience true freedom through Jesus– the propitiation for all who would believe. Then declare your independence and liberty that comes through Jesus and live free from sin and spiritual death and alive in living free for and in Christ the liberator of sin and death and the eternal life giver of abundant living and righteousness. Happy Independence Day my friends and praise the Lord for true freedom!!!
